The Plastic Packaging Tax Update

Recycled Plastic pellet

Our Responsibilites

The commencement of the Plastic Packaging Tax draws ever so closer and we at Flexopack, want to provide you with an update and answer any lingering questions that you may have on your polythene products.

The tax will apply to finished plastic packaging manufactured in, or imported into the UK which contains less than 30% recycled plastic. The rate of tax will be £200 per metric tonne on any plastic packaging that does not contain at least 30% of recycled plastic.

As a UK-based manufacturer of polythene products Flexopack Ltd are directly responsible for paying the Plastic Tax to the Government.

We already manufacture many of our products with at least 30% recycled plastic, and we will be updating our quotation documents to confirm your options and whether the tax will apply – it is our understanding that the tax will be due on any material manufactured from April 1st 2022 that does not contain a minimum 30% recycled plastic.

* Please note – certain products are exempt from the Plastic Tax, if you are unsure please consult the GOV.UK website and search Plastic Tax.

We hope the above provides some clarity, but please do not hesitate to contact us for any further assistance.
